Volunteering

I met with a woman about becoming a volunteer tutor for an adult literacy program! I've been wanting to do that for more than 15 years. So I went and filled out the basic information form and she practically came in her pants when she saw my experience as an office manager, project and event coordinator, grant writer, newsletter designer, organizing mass mailings, fundraising, working events, blah blah blah.

We ended up talking for over an hour and stopped only because her next appointment was waiting. She really wants my help in growing the organization. I told her I'd be happy to help her and that I was fine with doing office work if that's where she needed me most. I might do the tutor training and act as a substitute when needed but, for now, it looks like I'm going to be General Office Kick Assyness Person. I start Monday so we'll see how it goes!

I made a list of things I want to deal with for my therapist!

Things I Want to Deal With
  • Hoarding parents – shame
  • Physical abuse
  • Emotional abuse
  • Sexual abuse
  • Being parentified at a young age
  • 20 years of bulimia/anorexia
  • Body shame
  • Self loathing
  • Moms death
  • Dads suicide
  • Davids suicide
  • Brian
  • Steven
  • Codependency
  • Fear of...uh...everything

I figure that'll keep us busy for a few years!

Oh, if any of you need a way to find out about updates, I finally started using the Facebook fan page that was started for me and posting when I have a new blog entry.

  2. Sometimes volunteering leads to a paying job....here's hoping it works out that way for you. You have so many skills... it will make you happy to help. You are playing it forward for sure.
